Your Goal for This Course

If you've never invested before, or you wondered if what you were invested in were the right things, then this course is for you.

After completing this course, here's what you'll have learned:

  • What every major investment type is and why you would choose one over another (stocks, index funds, bonds, etc).
  • How to invest on your own without a financial advisor.
  • What fees you should look for when investing, and which are acceptable and which are scammy.
  • How diversifying your investments helps reduce risk while maximizing returns.
  • Which accounts to use (401k, Roth IRA, brokerage, etc) and which fund types are best to hold in each.
  • How to reduce taxes - both while you're growing your investments and when you start selling them.
  • What you can do to put investing on autopilot.

The result of these simple guidelines is that you’ll only be invested in things you know what they are and why you’d want to invest in them. You’ll know you aren’t getting ripped off because you understand every investment. But most importantly, you’ll know enough about investing to confidently invest for the rest of your life in this minimal style.

When I invest now, it's completely automated. Months go by without thinking about what I'm invested in. I'm able to not worry about the day to day market for a few important reasons:

  1. I'm investing for retirement. I don't need this money today, so why worry about todays value?
  2. I know what I'm invested in, and why it's the best possible investment for my goals.
  3. All my investments aren't in one basket. It'll go down when the entire market goes down – but I'm OK with that.
  4. At the end of the year when I do my taxes, I know I'll be good shape.

This is an exciting place to be! Having this knowledge is comforting and empowering. Changing worry and concern into knowledge takes time, but can payoff big in the long run. Enjoy the course!
